The Bessie Files

  Monsters on the Rio Grande

Most peoples of the world have myths and legends of monsters and other fanciful creatures that spring from humanity's fertile imagination. For a thousand years before Columbus, Europeans busily assembled a reservoir of lore about oneeyed beasts, dragons, giants, amazons and headless monsters that breathed through their stomachs.

One Legend Found, Many Still to Go

The human instinct to observe nature has always been mixed with a tendency to embroider upon it. So it is that, over the ages, societies have lived alongside not only real animals, but a shadow bestiary of fantastic ones - mermaids, griffins, unicorns and the like. None loomed larger than the giant squid, the kraken, a great, malevolent devil of the deep. "One of these Sea-Monsters," Olaus Magnus wrote in 1555, "will drown easily many great ships."

Tolkien's Dragons Have A Basis In Fact

Tolkien writes that dragons were among the most feared of the servants of the Dark Lord. The first dragon was Glaurung, the Father of Dragons, and he lived in the middle of the First Age. Following Glaurung many other dragons came and harassed both Elves and Men. Among them the infamous dragons were Ancalagon the first winged dragon, Scatha who dwelt in the cold northern wastes and Smaug who was the last of the great dragons and guarded treasure in The Hobbit.

Photos taken by Nessie Cam may prove existence of "Lake Creative"!

Mrs. Jones sent "Monster Tracker" three photographs. She was insistent that she watched large objects moving across the lake on her computer, and there was no question in her mind that she was observing large animals. The first image may very well be a large animal, but it is so indistinct and ambiguous that it's evidential value is minimal. However, the other two images are quite intriguing. In fact, the second image may be the best photographic evidence of these animals since the 1970's. This is the photo which appears above.

Researchers insist that centaurs actually existed - Archeologists have discovered rock paintings depicting strange creatures and called them teriantrops, hybrids of humans and animals. Researchers believe that ancient artists made the painting from life.

The Lake Worth Monster - Many critics will say that there is 'no such thing' as a monster, though they would have a difficult time trying to convince residents and former police officers of Lake Worth, Texas. The summer of 1969 brought a sense of love and peace for many in the nation, but for John Reichart and his wife there is only a sense of fear and wonder. The Reicharts were one of three couples who happened to be parked at Lake Worth on a warm July night when they received what could only be considered terrifying.

The Science of Sea Monsters - Sea monsters are in the news and on television like never before. NBC has a hit show on Monday nights with "Surface," about a huge, terrifying aquatic creature, and sea monsters grace the cover of the December 2005 issue of National Geographic.

Con Rit – The Great Sea Centipede - The volume of the world’s oceans are beyond the stretch of most imaginations at 1.37 billion cubic kilometres. The average depth of these oceans is 4km (2.5 miles), with the deepest point lying in the Mariana Trench some 10.9 km (6.8 miles) down. The pressure here reaches a phenomenal 8 tonnes per square inch, this would be comparable to one person trying to support 50 jumbo jets!

Milford Monster - The lunchtime customers at the small waterfront pub had never seen anything like it. They were enjoying a quiet drink when suddenly they saw a mysterious serpent-like creature in the water outside. It was dark and snake-like and roughly the length of four to five cars.

  Nessie - Nessie Sighting Examined

In figure A, I have given my initial impressions of this photograph and it is self-explanatory. To my eye, this photograph is corroborative of past photographic evidence for N. rhombopteryx, particularly the well-known "Surgeon's photo" of 1934.

Amateur captures video of alleged lake beast

Sightings of the Lake Van monster were first reported about two years ago, but further evidence was offered on Tuesday: bad quality amateur pictures of something long and dark moving in the middle of the lake. After each sighting, professional camera crews have rented boats to try to capture the alleged beast clearly on film, but were unsuccessful each time.

  Hunt for the swamp thing

The Loch Ness monster is passe. Forget it. The one that's truly in vogue now is the Congo monster. Its official name is the mokele-mbembe. But it is, in effect, a Congolese Nessie. And a bunch of Brits - with a like-minded international crowd - are determined to find it.

  Lake Champlain's Champ

Champ is supposedly the monster that lives in lake Champlain. It is said to have a long neck, brownish or blackish skin, and ridges down it's back. Also, Champ has a rounded back, and fins on it's sides.

Dennis Jay Hall, the indefatigable director of Champ Quest

For the past twenty years he has searched for the Champ animals that inhabit Lake Champlain, finding them on 19 different occasions. This is just one piece of history that occupies his time. Constant research and exploration will undoubtedly provide new insight into Vermont's historical past.

Loren Coleman is one of the world's leading cryptozoologists. An honorary member of the British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club, and several other international organizations, he is also a Life Member of the International Society of Cryptozoology.

Skeletal remains of unknown creature found at Lumut beach

What seems to be the skeletal remains of a big, unknown creature estimated to be 20 feet long was found washed ashore in Lumut beach February 2, 2003.

  Lake Superior Monster

On Memorial Day Weekend in 1977 I was camping at Presque Isle campground north of Ironwood, Michigan, with a friend. I don't remember if it was Saturday or Sunday but it was a beautiful morning and Lake Superior was like glass. Visibility was remarkable when looking out across the Lake, and distant land was visible. There's a trail that leads east from the campground which crosses the Presque Isle River that I was navigating, however, the bugs were unbearable, and I headed north towards the lake hoping that walking along the beach would be more comfortable.

  The Search for Ogopogo

For hundreds of years, the Ogopogo story has been one that has been shrouded in mystery. Eye-witness reports tell of an unusual animal surfacing, submerging and swimming swiftly through the waters of Lake Okanagan.

  The Search for Caddy

The family of large aquatic reptiles that frequents the coast of British Columbia has been repeatedly sighted by credible witnesses -- the legends about them date back to Native American traditions. The locals affectionately call the creature "Caddy", short for Cadborosaurus, which takes its name from the Cadboro Bay where it is most often seen.
